(fat Ha llah) - فتح الله - a local chain of markets/stores in Alexandria, Egypt which have a range of goods from food products to housewares to various odds and ends.

tech - software which is used to collect syndicated web content from feeds such as blogs and podcasts so that they may be viewed on personal computers. a.k.a. - feed reader, news reader, aggregator.

(fawss) - acronym - Free Open Source Software - a.k.a. FLOSS (Free/Libre/Open Source Software), F/OSSaf
26. gallabiya
(gaa laa bee yah) - جلابية - a long garment that is worn throughout the Middle-East. It is really like an extended shirt with a collar. Click here to see a picture of some Khaleeji guys wearing their gallabiyas. This garment has many names which are used in different places: a.k.a. - thawb, thobe, jallabiya, dishdasha, kandura, qamees, khameez.
27. Gameat al-Dowal
abbr - Gameat al-Dowal al-Arabiya is Arabic for the Arab League. There is also a street in Mohandessin named after the Arab League which everyone refers to as "Gameat al-Dowal" for short. This street is a treacherous 8-lane divided highway which everyone crosses—dodging buses and careening taxis—without a second thought.

(ge nay) - جنيه - local currency in Egypt. Also referred to as the "Egyptian Pound." abbr - LE, ج.
29. GNU
(noo) - acronym (recursive) -"GNU's Not UNIX." GNU is a UNIX-like operating system which was developed in the early 1980's by Richard Stallman and the Free Software Foundation. It differs from UNIX is that it contains no actual UNIX code and is an entirely free and open source operating system. GNU systems typically utilize the Linux kernel, as the GNU Hurd kernel is still in development and unstable for many operations (and has been for more than 30 years).

(ha bee bee) - حبيبي - literally: "my love." This word is regularly used among friends as a term of endearment.

(abla, habla) - أبله - idiot, stupid person, moron. (mostly Levantine)
32. Hajj
(Hadj) - حجج - pilgrimage. This word is typically used to describe the annual pilgrimage to Mecca during the month of Dhu ul-Hijja. The pilgrimage is compulsory all Muslims one time in their lives, if they are able. The Hajj involves a complex series of rituals and ends in Eid ul-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice.

tech jargon - a computer which has no Human Input Devices (HIDs). This is usually the case when you have a computer which is running as a server with no monitor, keyboard, mouse setup and can only be accessed using the network it is attached to via secure shell (ssh) or telnet.

(helw, helwa) - حلو - sweet. This can mean sweet as in the way something tastes, "ahwa helwa [sweet coffee]" or sweet as in "di helw awee, ya basha [Dude, that is frigging sweet]."
35. humar
(Hoo maar) - حمار - donkey, ass, jackass. Used in a derogatory manner as a personal insult or as an expression of outrage or exasperation.
36. ibra
(e brah) - إبرة - needle. Typically, sewing needle, though, apparently can be used as well to mean hypodermic needle.
37. Ibrahimiya
(ib ra hee mee yah) - إبراهيمية - a region of the city of Alexandria. There is a huge souq for food and other things and a well-known mosque in this area, as well as some good kushari places.
38. inshallah
(in sha all ah) - إن شاء الله - "if God will's it" (alternate spelling: in sha Allah)
39. ishta
(ish ta) - إشتا - cool. This is really colloquial, and I only ever hear it from guys who hang out with Americans all the time.
40. jealot
(jal oat) - portmanteau of "jealous" and "zealot."
